New Horticulture Course Beginning this March

We are delighted to be able to offer the new Diploma in Horticulture course at level 2.  The course will run on Wednesdays from the end of March until Christmas, taking you right through a growing season at the farm.  Taught on site at Growing Well, the course gives participants in-depth and hands-on experience in growing organic produce, as well as the broader horticultural concepts all skilled gardeners require.

The course is offered by Growing Well in collaboration with our long-time partners Kendal College, and only costs around £150.  Please contact Hazel as soon as possible to reserve a place on the course as numbers are limited to eight and we already have number of people signed up.

Spring Is On The Way!

Though you may still be feeling the chill of winter, here at Growing Well we are winding down our winter jobs and getting ready for spring. We began seed sowing in earnest in mid-February and our heated polytunnel is now bursting with plants waiting to get growing. The finishing touches are being placed on our compost area, and our new tractor is making short work of turning and moving our compost.

The real hard work of the last month has been our team's valiant efforts to clear couch grass from the lower area of our field. We have hauled countless trailer loads of the weed off the field and into a special compost bay - it will take a number of years to fully compost before we can safely return the compost to the fields.

Answer our questionnaire and you could win a month's supply of vegetables!

We are currently seeking your views on a range of new horticulture courses that we are considering running.  If you take a few moments to click on the link below and complete the on-line questionnaire you will be entered in a draw to win a month's supply of farm-grown produce.  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/X7K7RCQ

If you can spare an hour or two, we'd like to invite you to tea at the farm shop to take part in a focus group to help us find out more details about your views on horticultural training at the farm - Particulalrly if you've never taken one of our courses!.  Please e-mail Sarah or call 015395 61777 for more details.

Would You Like A Share Of Our Crop?

Our Cropshare scheme enables local people to buy a share of our crop at the beginning of the season, and then receive a weekly bag of fresh produce grown on the farm.

After a successful pilot year in 2009, we will be re-launching the scheme this summer.  We will be expanding the number of shares we can offer, so if you would like some more information about how to join the scheme and how it works please give Clare or James a call on 015395 61777.
